How can i seriously and quickly get rid of these horrible shin splints?

This is my fourth week running consistently. First week, I ran perfect without a problem, just tired. Second week, left shin splint ached. Third week left and right shin splints ached BADLY. This week, cannot run not even half a block before they both start aching. What's going on? HELP!
Answer:
Shin splints can have many causes. For treatment, the Mayo Clinic website recommends the following: * Rest. Avoid activities that cause pain, swelling or discomfort 鈥?but don't give up all physical activity. While you're healing, try low-impact exercises, such as swimming, bicycling or water running. If your shin pain causes you to limp, consider using crutches until you can walk normally without pain.
* Ice the affected area. Apply ice packs to the affected shin for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, four times a day for several days. To protect your skin, wrap the ice packs in a thin towel.
* Reduce swelling. Elevate the affected shin above the level of your heart, especially at night. It may also help to compress the area with an elastic bandage or compression sleeve. Loosen the wrap if the pain increases, the area becomes numb or swelling occurs below the wrapped area.
* Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. Try ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Aleve) or aspirin to reduce pain and inflammation.
* Wear proper shoes. Your doctor may recommend a shoe that's especially suited for your foot type, your stride and your particular sport.
* Consider arch supports. Arch supports can help cushion and disperse stress on your shinbones. Off-the-shelf arch supports come in various sizes and can be fitted immediately. More durable arch supports can be custom-made from a plaster cast of your foot.As for prevention of shin splints, you need to figure out why you got them in the first place. One question is where did you get your shoes? Were you fitted at a running store where they make sure that your biomechanics are correct to prevent injury, or not? If so, take the shoes back and get other ones. If you did not, then your running shoes may be partially to blame.Running puts large stresses on the body. The correct biomechanical shoe can prevent many injuries common to runners. The wrong shoe can increase the chances of getting various injuries. There are different types of feet, such as overpronaters, normal pronaters, and under pronaters. To avoid injury one needs to make sure you have the correct type of shoe. A shoe from a specialty running store may be expensive ($100+), but it's worth it to avoid injuries.Other possible causes of shin splints include (from the Mayo Clinic website):
* Running downhill
* Running on a slanted or tilted surface
* Running in worn-out footwear
* Engaging in sports with frequent starts and stops, such as basketball and tennis
